I have actually got open office
so you think that will convert to a pdf ?
I ll have to give it a try !

To be honest Ive always been against pdf because I like
to get at the text .. text and pics in pdf are hard to get at and save .... cut and paste etc
but if you think pdf is the best format to upload,
Ill have to give it a try

Timbo,

Just click on the PDF icon along the toolbar at the top and it will save the file as a PDF. Since you created it in Open Office the OCR will be nearly perfect and the archive will actually create the text file automatically. for example:

http://www.archive.org/details/Zoe_A_Story_Of_Honor_Betrayal_And_Redemption_

The Archive servers automatically derive these files from the uploaded PDF. I also sometimes include a file in the .doc format when I upload documents, this give a clean and 100% accurate text document. See:

http://www.archive.org/details/Binary_Tutorial_

Make sure that the PDF does not have embedded text, if you use Open Office that will not be an issue. Also you should redo your metadata and put your or the author's name into the form for updating the metadata and description. You can use my templates as an example. Just click on 'edit item' under 'resources' and this will bring you to the complete form for inputting the Metadata. Also, if you click on a text file for either of these documents, you will see that the OCR is nearly perfect.

Gerry

just remembered a communication I had with kindle,
I put some text in my kindle using notepad and
the font was strange and the text to speech didnt read it.

Finally they advised me to put the text into the
notepad + a more advanced form of notepad.

I did this and bingo, kindle worked well with the text.

But anyway, next time I upload some text , Ill try and get it into pdf format... looks like that is the best option.

I might even use the kindle text to speech voice to record
and audio and upload that to int archive... its a good
quality voice and it allows members to give their eyes a rest !
